Halloween Critical Mass ride in SF (updated)

“Tonight is the night of the annual Halloween Critical Mass in San Francisco…” (via Cycle Chic™ – The Original from Copenhagen.)

Update: Now over, obviously, since San Francisco’s “Critical Mass” bike ride is always held on Friday evening.

Demotix – the website that distributes photo journalism by amateur photographers from all over the world – has a wonderful collection of images from last night’s ride by Steve Rhodes:

More photos, and some video, are available from Indybay a “non-commercial, democratic collective of bay area independent media makers and media outlets,” part of the IndyMedia network:

Cycle Chic™ and Girl Watching

I often enjoy the entries over at Cycle Chic, and have been known to engage in girl-watching myself, but sometimes I think there is a bit too much girl-watching and not enough cycle chic over at Cycle Chic…

Two Ways to Turn in Style

Old-school straight-armed goodness.

Non-chalant coolness.

(via Cycle Chic™ – The Original from Copenhagen.: Two Ways to Turn in Style.)

What is so chic about these cycles, and cyclists? And anyway, isn’t the nonchalant woman signaling for a stop?

Bicycle Window Box – For the transient gardener

Two great things that (don’t) go great together:

Bicycle Window Box- For the transient gardener.

A window box for the cyclist who is always on the move, or cycle tourist needing nutritious strawberries and beansprouts..

or simply for someone without a garden….or a moron,(like me).

(via Instructables.)

No, seriously – on a purely practical level I don’t think these go together. The window box would be very heavy, and whizzing around would be a bit rough on young seedlings. But I love it visually, conceptually, aesthetically…

The 400 Blows

zerode

is an over-caffeinated and under-employed grad school dropout, aspiring leftwing intellectual and cultural studies academic, film buff and occasional reviewer, and former private detective. Raised in San Francisco on classic film, radical politics, burritos and soul music, then set loose upon the world. He spends his time in coffee shops with his laptop and headphones, caffeinating and trying to construct a post-whatever life.

What's in a name... The handle "zerode" is a contraction of Zéro de Conduite, the title of Jean Vigo's 1933 movie masterpiece about schoolboy rebellion.
